A young participant in Ethiopia’s trachoma prevention week gives us a fist bump. He and thousands of other schoolchildren commit to face washing and latrine use as proven methods for fighting this disease. Doctors and health-care volunteers also administer antibiotics and perform eyelid surgeries to treat blinding trachoma. The combination of antibiotics and good hygiene works to prevent several diseases at once. In some villages, childhood mortality has been cut in half.
